Sly’s vintage cocktail selections

“Up” or “On the Rocks” — more than one hundred years of cocktail traditions for your drinking pleasure.

Cocktails by the Year

Over the years, working with Chris Chinn, our Bar Manager we’ve put together quite a menu of classic cocktails.

Their fun selections have opened new doors for the younger clientele. They’ve also brought back starry-eyed memories for those who remember imbibing these classics in another era.

The number to the right of the cocktail? That’s the year that the drink is acknowledged to have been created — at least more or less. There is no small amount of controversy surrounding most of these drinks — that’s part of the fun, isn’t it?

The Sazerac (1830) and the Zombie from over one hundred years later in 1937 are the two most recent additions to Sly’s list. Both are, quite frankly, damn fine drinks, though they could hardly be more different.

The Sazerac, with Absinthe, Peychaud’s Bitters, and Rye, is a bit austere, while the Zombie (much like you may have found at Don the Beachcomber’s), with a couple of fruit juices, our homemade falernum syrup, five kinds of rum and a couple of “secret” liqueurs keeps the bartender working for a while. Both are top-notch examples of great drinks.

Wines by the Glass

We’ve worked hard to chose a good selection of wines by the glass as well. Like our regular wine list, our wine by the glass selection is pretty evenly divided between local and Californian wines and similar French selections. You have a chance to compare, contrast, and experience some familiar, and not so familiar flavors.*

Great wines by the glass, from Santa Barbara and California, and from the great wine regions of France.
